13. ON SYNCHRONICITY - Ffiona von Westhoven Perigrinor
Jung’s theory of synchronicity stemmed from his early experiences of the paranormal, together with his observations in both his research and clinical practice. His meeting with the sinologist Richard Wilhelm, experiments with the I Ching, explorations of Alchemy and work with Wolfgang Pauli deepened his understanding of seemingly coincidental acausal phenomena, which he first expounded in depth at the 1951 Eranos Conference.
Fundamental to Jung’s theory are the dual concepts of affectivity, as manifested by the quality of interest in the synchronistic event, and the symbolic meaning assigned to it. Thus, through synchronicity, the mind-body relationship can be shown to be united in the psychoid reality of Unus Mundus.

14. FAIRY TALE ENACTMENT: THE GIRL WITHOUT HANDS (a weekend workshop) - Craig Stephenson and Jeni Treves
The Grimms’ fairy tale, The Girl Without Hands, recounts a story of betrayal and mutilation, of bankrupted families and false economies, and of long and lonely processes of healing and transformation. This weekend workshop is suitable for creative arts therapists, analysts, and anyone keen on exploring story through voice, movement, art, enactment, and quiet reflection. On Friday evening we will begin to explore specific motifs and themes. On Saturday, we will warm up, enact, and then discuss the story. Please wear comfortable clothing for moving on Saturday.

Cost £105

15. ON TYPOLOGY - Linda Freeman
Typology remains as a cornerstone in Jung’s evolution as a psychologist. It informed his own journey through pain, dissolution and resolution. It was the second major area of collaboration with his patient Sabrina Spielrein and Toni Wolf, which facilitated his acquisition of a necessary new attitude. With this work he deepened his exploration of the human condition and with these insights he was able to facilitate both his personal healing and to open up depth psychology to an additional methodology applicable in the daily work of psychotherapy. It also began his interest in epistemology.

16. THE MYSTERIUM (a reading seminar) - Jim Fitzgerald
This is a reading seminar which can but give a brief and fleeting outline of the vast work which is Mysterium Coniunctionis. Sections will be assigned for reading which hopefully will deal with the central aspects of Jung’s thought with regard to the Opposites and their ultimate union. The alchemical symbolism, especially that pertaining to the Orphan, the Sun and Moon, the Scintillae, Salt and Sulphur, Rex and Regina, among others, will be opened for discussion. The aim of the seminar is two-fold: to gain some overview of this last great work of Jung, and secondly, to become familiar with at least part of the significance of alchemy in Jung’s thought.

Date Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May
Time Friday 7.30pm-9.30pm, Saturday 10.30am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm
Cost £105

17. ON DREAMS -  Elizabeth Gordon
This seminar will look at Jung’s writing on dream and dream interpretation. We will discuss the ways in which Jungian analysts work with dreams with their analysands in order to see what is their purpose and place in the process of individuation.

Date Thursday 27 June
Time 7.30pm-9.30pm
Cost £35

18. ON THE PSYCHIC COMPLEX - Julian David
For Jung, the psychic complex is the sine qua non of depth psychology and human life: ‘The feeling toned complex is the image of a certain psychic situation, which is strongly accentuated emotionally and is, moreover, incompatible with the habitual attitude of consciousness. This image has a powerful inner coherence, it has its own wholeness, and, in addition, a relatively high degree of autonomy. The complex can usually be suppressed with an effort of will, but not argued out of existence’.

Date Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June
Time Friday 7.30pm-9.30pm, Saturday 10.30am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm
Cost £105

19. ON HAVING UNKNOWN PARENTS: DISTURBANCES IN THE UNFOLDING OF THE ARCHETYPE OF KINSHIP - Penny Boisset
Jung recognised an instinct which he named ‘kinship libido’. Like other instincts, it expresses itself in ‘unreflected, involuntary fantasy images, attitudes and actions’. There is good reason, he says, to suppose the archetypes to be the unconscious images of instincts. This seminar will consider the disturbances that can arise in the unfolding of the archetype of kinship in circumstances where biological kin are unknown, as in the case in some adoptions and in donor assisted conception. We will grapple with the complex relations of archetype and instinct and image.

Date Thursday 25 July
Time 7.30pm-9.30pm
Cost £35

20. BUDDHISM: THE MYTH OF THE BUDDHA, FORM AND EMPTINESS, WISDOM AND COMPASSION, MEDITATION AND ANALYSIS - Eve Jackson
In this seminar we will take a look at some aspects of Buddhist psychology and imagery, and discuss how the meditative path of Buddhism may be compared to the way of depth psychology.

Date Friday 26 and Saturday 27 July
Time Friday 7.30pm-9.30pm, Saturday 10.30am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm
Cost £105
